Secretary of AIADMK’s Advocate Wing and former MLA, has petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking action against the Tamil Nadu government for alleged mismanagement of the Indian Air Force’s air show last Sunday, which tragically resulted in the death of five people and left over 200 hospitalized due to dehydration.
In his petition, Inbadurai pointed out that the state government was responsible for facilitating the air show, including making arrangements for basic amenities, transportation, and healthcare for the public. However, he alleged that the government’s inefficiency in managing the event led to these unfortunate outcomes.
“The air show began at 11:30 AM and ended at 1:00 PM on Sunday. As soon as the event concluded, the public left the venue, which resulted in traffic disturbances and a near-paralysis of movement for over an hour,” Inbadurai stated in his petition. He added that while the state government was fully aware of the large crowd expected at the event, it failed to implement an adequate crowd and traffic management plan.
Inbadurai further criticized the government for prioritizing arrangements for VIP and VVIP vehicles, leaving the general public stranded without a proper exit strategy. This lack of planning, he said, caused immense distress to lakhs of attendees.
The former MLA has called for an independent investigation into the mismanagement of the mega event, demanding accountability from the state government for its role in the chaos and subsequent health crisis.
With the NHRC petition, the AIADMK has added a new layer of political pressure on the ruling DMK government, which is facing criticism for the mishandling of what was supposed to be a landmark public event showcasing the Indian Air Force.
