Chennai, July 17:
DMK chief M. K. Stalin on Thursday asserted that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Members of Parliament will strongly oppose the proposed Mekedatu Dam and safeguard Tamil Nadu’s rights over the Cauvery River.
The assurance came after a virtual meeting of DMK MPs chaired by Stalin, where key issues including the Mekedatu dam proposal and the reported reintroduction of a delimitation-related Bill in the upcoming Parliament session were discussed.
In a post on social media platform X, Stalin said DMK MPs would raise their voice against any move to construct the dam and protect Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of Cauvery waters.
He further stated that the party would oppose any legislation brought by the Union government that undermines state rights or goes against the Constitution. Emphasising the party’s stand, Stalin said DMK MPs would act as the “conscience of Tamil Nadu’s people” in Parliament.
