East Bengal controlled possession for much of the contest and created several scoring opportunities, but goalkeeper Ibrahim Al Mukhaini kept the home side at bay with a series of important saves. Dani Ramirez came close in the 10th minute with a left-footed attempt that went narrowly wide. Ibrahim then denied Edmund Lalrindika in the 20th minute, before captain Mohammed Rashid sent the rebound wide. The goalkeeper produced another save to stop Ramirez in the 33rd minute.
Al-Seeb offered a greater attacking threat after the break, with Axel Meye heading over from a corner in the 48th minute. East Bengal continued to search for an opening, but Ibrahim made another crucial intervention in the 61st minute, denying Ramirez after a move involving Jay Gupta and substitute Ake Loba.
East Bengal goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa kept the visitors out in the 76th minute with a sharp reflex save against Omar Almalki. Almalki failed to convert the rebound, allowing East Bengal to remain in the contest.
The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the 85th minute. Meye controlled Hassan Al-Ajmi’s cross, got past defender Sandip Mandi and finished to put Al-Seeb ahead. Meye then turned provider in stoppage time, setting up substitute Zahir Al-Aghbari, who was left unmarked before calmly slotting home in the 90+1st minute.
The defeat leaves East Bengal at the bottom of Group D with two points, while Al-Seeb moves to third with four points. Despite dominating possession and creating chances, East Bengal was unable to find a way past Ibrahim, whose performance proved decisive.
