India’s largest bone bank inaugurated in Chennai


Chennai: Rotary Madras Central Prahlad Rai Saraogi Bone Bank was inaugurated in Cancer Institute (WIA) Adyar, Chennai by Rotary International Director Elect Kamal Sanghvi in the presence of Babu Peram, Rotary District Governor – RI 3232 Chennai, Past District Governor SVRM Ramanathan as known as Abhirami Ramanathan, Saranyan, president, Rotary Club of Madras Central and other Rotarians, Doctors, officials from Cancer Institute (WIA) Adyar on 28 June.

This bank was built with approximately Rs 80 lakh by Rotary Club of Madras Central through Rotary International Global Grant programme. Dr Chandra Kumar (Orthopedic Oncologist) of Cancer Institute (WIA) will be the Head of Bone Bank. He has undergone special training in Singapore and South Korea to carry out Bone Bank operations.

This would be India’s Largest Bone Bank. The first Bone Bank is in Mumbai built by Tata Memorial Hospital and second by M S Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru.
