Chennai: Governor Banwarilal Purohit distributed scholarships worth 30 lakh to various students of schools and colleges under the auspices of Pehchaan Charitable Trust at the function organised by the trust at Kalaivanar Arangam, Triplicane on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Governor said, “I am happy to be here today to participate in the national level educational conclave being organised by the Pehchaan Charitable Trust with the aim of opening up avenues for education for the under privileged sections of our society by providing scholarships and grants under various programmes.”
He added that selfless service for society is held up as the highest virtue in our Country. “Viewing the humanity of the world as one family is fundamental to our way of thinking and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is the driving force behind Indiaās spirituality. This has also been the message of all religions.”
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, Governor said, “It is a privilege to serve mankind, for this is the worship of God. God is here, in all these human souls. He is the soul of man.” Bible says “Know thou, that in the service of thy fellowmen, do thou serveth me.” Prophet Muhammed said, “Charity is a duty unto every Muslim; He who hath the means there to, let him do a good act and abstain from an evil one. That is his charity.”
He further said that the 21st century is characterised by the emergence of multiculturalism due to industrialisation, urbanisation and globalisation. “Since education is an instrument for societal change, it should develop cognitive capabilities, tolerance to withstand multicultural impulses and understanding of diversity. It should also prepare the younger generation to face the complex realities of globalisation.”
On the occasion, president, Pehchaan Charitable Trust, Gyanchand Chordia, managing director, SPR High living, Hitesh Kawad, secretary, Vimal Kankaliya, managing trustee of Shri Hiradevi Kishanlal Luniya Charitable Trust, Deepchand Luniya, vice president of the trust J Mayur Davey, managing trustee Shantilal Lalwani and other dignitaries were present.
