Oussudu (SC)

Oussudu, designated as Constituency No. 3 in Puducherry, is a Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved seat located in the western part of the region along the border with Villupuram district. Predominantly rural in character, the constituency’s economy is driven by agriculture, agricultural labour, and small-scale industries, along with employment opportunities in nearby Puducherry city.

A defining feature of the region is the Oussudu Lake, an ecologically significant water body that also supports local irrigation and livelihoods.
Politically, Oussudu remains a competitive constituency, with key players such as the All India NR Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam contesting, often as part of broader alliances.

The electorate consists largely of Scheduled Caste communities, along with OBC farmers and labour groups. Grassroots politics plays a decisive role, with village panchayat leaders and local party networks influencing voter mobilisation and electoral outcomes.

Key issues in the constituency revolve around agricultural water supply, irrigation infrastructure, and the protection of the Oussudu Lake ecosystem.

Employment opportunities, housing schemes, and basic infrastructure such as roads and drinking water are also major concerns. Voters place strong emphasis on welfare delivery and accessible leadership, often favouring candidates who can ensure tangible benefits and development.

As a result, Oussudu stands out as a constituency where rural livelihoods, environmental concerns, and welfare politics intersect, making it a significant seat in Puducherry’s electoral landscape.
