Chennai: On the second death anniversary of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, along with senior Ministers, MPs and MLAs, took a vow at the ‘Amma Memorial’ to ensure that the party emerges victorious in the upcoming Lok Sabha and other elections.
They also pledged to ensure that all government schemes reached the public. Earlier in the day, clad in black shirts, Panneerselvam and Palaniswami, AIADMK coordinator and joint coordinator, respectively, led a silent march from Anna Salai to Marina beach, where the former AIADMK supremo was laid to rest.
Senior cabinet ministers, MPs and MLAs besides scores of party supporters most of whom were clad in black joined Panneerselvam and Palaniswami and paid their tributes.
Apart from the AIADMK, members belonging to T T V Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam also took out a procession to the memorial on the Marina.
Since more than one outfit were carrying out processions, adequate security measures were taken to ensure that no untoward incidents took place.
Politics behind procession: Deepa
Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa along with her husband Madhavan paid their respects at the memorial. After paying her tributes, Deepa said the the procession carried out by the AIADMK had political motive. “They are doing this keeping the upcoming elections in mind,” she said.
