TFPC not to control Pongal, Christmas releases

The Tamil Film Producers Council has decided not to regulate the number of releases for the Christmas and Pongal weekend.

Despite repeated attempts, the council couldn’t convince the majority of producers who are planning to release their films only on the two dates — 21 December and 10 January.

Nearly six films including Dhanush’s Maari 2, Jayam Ravi’s Adangamaru, Vijay Sethupathi’s Seethakathi (20 December), Vishnu Vishal’s Silukkuvarpatti Singam, Sivakarthikeyan-Aishwarya Rajesh’s Kanaa and Kannada movie KGF are scheduled to release for Christmas weekend.

Though the council asked some of the producers to choose 14 December, they turned down the idea. TFPC also failed in convincing the producers of Petta and Viswasam to postpone at least one of their films from Pongal.

Understanding the situation, TFPC has now announced that they will not interfere in the release plans of 21 December and 10 January movies.
