Rajini Makkal Mandram to construct 15 houses for Gaja victims


Chennai: Top actor Rajinikanth Monday said that the Rajini Makkal Mandram would construct 15 houses in five villages for those affected in cyclone Gaja hit Nagapattinam district.

Rajini Makkal Mandram is seen as a precursor to the proposed political party launched by the actor in 2017. A press release from Rajini Makkal Mandram said it had over the last two months been engaged in rehabilitation work in cyclone affected districts, including disbursal of Rs 50 lakh worth of relief materials.

The mandram said that based on the actor’s request, they decided to construct 15 thatched roof houses for the worst affected in Arcotthurai, Kodiakkadu, Kodiakkarai villages in Nagapattinam district at a cost of Rs 1.50 lakh each.

The houses would be handed over to the benificiaries over a period of two months, it added. Cyclone Gaja crossed the coast of Nagapattinam on 16 November leaving more than 50 people dead and rendering many homeless.
