Chennai: The city police arrested a man who called up the police control room 20 times claiming that a bomb would go off at the residence of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
According to sources, on 7 August, at 8.30 pm, the police control room received a call from an unidentified man saying that a bomb would go off at the Greenways Road residence of the Chief Minister any moment.
The city police responded by heightening security at the premises and combing the place. The information turned out to be a hoax, but in the meantime, the man called the police 19 more times informing them about a bomb waiting to explode.
The Cyber Cell police identified the caller as Vinod Kumar (33), a resident of Parasakthi Nagar who worked as a driver. Police subsequently arrested him from his house. He called the police control room from his mobile phone in inebriated condition, it is learnt.
Incidentally, this is not the first time Vinod was doing this. It may be noted that on 28 July, Vinod had made a similar call creating panic. He called the police control room informing about a bomb being planted at the Chief Minister’s house.
He was traced, arrested and remanded in Puzhal jail. He was released on bail on 5 August. At that time he told police that he was angry that his complaint about his missing wife was not taken seriously by the police.
