Flights cancelled, reservoirs full

Chennai: A total of 12 flights from Chennai to and from Tuticorin, Madurai and Kochi were cancelled due to heavy rains.

Sources said departure of eight flights to destinations like Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, Trichy, Dubai and Abu Dhabi were delayed due to heavy rains.

Chennai city and the suburban Meenambakkam, which had been receiving incessant non-stop rains, recorded six cm each. Among the city reservoirs, Cholavaram received 9 cm, Red Hills 5 cm, Poondi 4 cm.

Chembarambakkam, from where surplus water was received to the extend of 2,000 cusecs since yesterday afternoon, received 3 cm and a flood alert has been issued to downstream areas in Adyar river, Kundrathur, Tiruneermalai and Thirumudivakkam.
