Chennai: The Opposition DMK and its allies in Tamilnadu extended its support to the ‘Bharat Bandh’ called for by farmers on 8 December in protest against the three Farm laws and demanded that they should be repealed.
In a joint statement signed by DMK and its alliance party leaders, they said the demand by the farmers seeking withdrawal of the three Bills was âtotally justifiedâ.
Stating that the protests by farmers near the National Capital kept swelling with every passing day, they said the agitation has drawn the world’s attention.
They also had a dig at the Centre for not coming out with any constructive proposals even after five rounds of talks and for maintaining silence on the demands of the farmers.
The DMK-led combine also condemned the Union government for not acceding to the farmers’ demand for withdrawal of the contentious laws.
Extending the DMK-led Front’s wholehearted support to the Bharat Bandh, DMK President M K Stalin appealed to the farmers’ unions, traders bodies, government employees’ associations, labour unions and others to extend their full support to the bandh and make it a grand success.
The joint statement was issued by DMK, Congress, MDMK, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, IUML, MMK, IJK and KNMNK.
Meanwhile actor-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam Founder Kamal Haasan has sent a delegation to Delhi to lend his party’s support to the farmerâs protest.
