Chennai: The nationwide shutdown, Bharat Bandh, called by the protesting farmers, will run from 11 am to 3 pm.
According to sources, transport services, fruits and vegetable shops are most likely to be affected in certain cities.
“The agitating farmers are expected to occupy toll plazas, and set up camps across Delhi and Haryana,” sources said.
Despite the farmer unions assuring that the day will be peaceful, police in Delhi and other cities are not taking chances and have barricaded many areas, apart from issuing travel advisories to locals.
Bank unions will wear black badges while on duty and stage protests after or before working hours, it is learnt.
As far as other States are concerned, the AIADMK-ruled Tamilnadu is not supporting the bandh.
Supply of fruits and vegetables is likely to continue as usual, as the traders’ federation has not extended its support yet.
However, States like Telangana and Punjab will have a complete shutdown, with the respective governments backing the bandh.
It may be noted that five rounds of talks between farmer groups and the Centre, have not resulted in any solution, with another one being scheduled for 9 December. The call is for the immediate rollback of the recent farm laws.
