Chennai: The Ambassador of France to India, Emmanuel Lenain, accompanied by the Consul General of France in Puducherry and Chennai, Lise Talbot Barre, called on the Prince of Arcot, Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, at his ancestral home, during his visit to Chennai on Monday.
Bruno Plasse, director, Alliance Francaise, Chennai, was also present during the meeting.
A statement here said, the Prince recalled the history of his ancestors, the Nawabs of the Carnatic/ Arcot and Lord Dupleix of France in Pondicherry, during the 18th and 19th centuries.
He emphasised and said that ‘the world is better, if we are united together’, and we should respect the sentiments of all faiths and live in peace and harmony and meet the aspirations of millions of men and women for a better world – a world of justice and peaceful co-existence of all communities.
He appealed to the Ambassador to assure us that France and its citizens value principles and respect all nations and people, irrespective of caste, colour or religion, who want to live in peace, harmony and justice.
The Ambassador expressed his happiness for having met the Prince of Arcot and his heir-apparent and Dewan, Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali.
“I tremendously enjoyed their insightful explanations about the family’s history and the values of tolerance they uphold as much as I was impressed by their numerous current activities,” he said.
