Chennai: The Adani Kattupalli Port Private Limited on Monday denied reports of logjam at the Port.
As per orders of the government, the Port operations in the Chennai cluster were affected due to severe cyclonic storm Nivar from 24 to 26 November, when berthing of vessels and yard operations had to be temporarily suspended in view of the inclement weather.
Further, these ports have been impacted by the impact of cyclonic storm Burevi resulting in slowing down of port operations because of incessant rains and gusty winds.
As per orders of the Central and State Government, the normal operations resumed at the port after both the cyclones, a spokesman man from Adani said.
“After resumption of berthing of vessels at the Port, the backlog of vessels is being cleared on priority basis in order to maintain the critical supply chain requirements of our business partners’, the spokesman said, adding, ‘we are confident that the normalcy of operations will be restored shortly and solicited the cooperation of the trade and all stakeholders”.
Denying allegations of congestion in Kattupalli Port owing to shortage of resources, the spokesman said, the Port has handled 18,134 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) from November 26till date, besides handling an average of 1660 TEU’s gate movement on a daily basis.
