Chennai: Police Sub-Inspector Muthu who attacked customers and staffs of a hotel in Coimbatore has been suspended.

A video of Muthu hitting the employees and customers of a hotel in Gandhipuram in Coimbatore went viral in social media.

It is said that Muthu took the action as the hotel was doing business with half shutters down after 10 pm.

However, the government guidelines state that eateries can be opened with 50 per cent occupancy till 11 pm.

The hotel owner Mohanraj alleged that five persons including a woman were injured in the attack.

Mohanraj said that Muthu wanted the hotel to be closed by 10 pm as the Station Inspector would come for patrol.

“We had the shutters half shut and a few women were having dinner,” Mohanraj said.
Coimbatore City Police Commissioner S Davidson Devasirvatham ordered the SI to be shifted to the control room and also ordered an inquiry for further action. Muthu has now been suspended following the investigation.

State Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to Devasirvatham asking him to submit a detailed report of the action taken against Muthu within 14 days.
