Chennai: Tamilnadu Health Minister M Subramanian has said that he would request the Union government to commence admission to the yet-to-be established AIIMS in Madurai only after construction of its buildings begins.
The Minister, who is meeting Union Health Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya in New Delhi on Thursday, said that only the compound wall of the AIIMS has been built so far; procedures for fund and tender allocation for other constructions are yet to be completed.
‘As such, commencing admission to the AIIMS now may not be a good proposition,’ he added.
The Health Ministry recently stated that it is keen to start services at AIIMS Madurai, subject to availability of suitable alternative space for MBBS classes and outpatient services as well as faculty and other manpower.
