Chennai: The Union government has sanctioned Rs 800 crore to Tamilnadu as part of Covid-19 relief package for managing second wave of the infection and preventing third wave.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi after meeting Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya yesterday, Tamilnadu Health Minister M Subramanian said that more grants would be given after exhaustion of the fund.
Subramaniam said that the State has sought additional doses of vaccines and urged the Union Government to permit vaccine manufacturing units at Chengalpet and Coonoor.
“The State had demanded Rs 1,500 crore for management and prevention of the epidemic. They immediately granted Rs 800 crore. After we utilise this, the Centre will review our proposal and release more funds,” he added.
