Chennai: The Benami Prohibition Unit, Chennai, has attached a farmhouse at Paiyanur, said to belong to expelled AIADMK leader V K Sasikala, under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act.
According to reports, the property, measuring 28.17 acres, located on Old Mahabalipuram Road, could be worth Rs 100 crore.
Income Tax authorities attached the bungalow and vacant land adjacent to the sprawling mansion in Payyanur on Wednesday. Several properties belonging to Sasikala and her family members were attached under the Benami Act in 2020 and 2021.
A 2014 judgment by former Karnataka Special Court Judge John Michael Cunha lists these 11 properties as ‘disproportionate assets’ of Jayalalithaa, her close aide Sasikala and Sasikala’s relatives – Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran.
Based on the 2014 court judgment, the tax department has attached the properties under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, reports said.
