DVAC checks bank lockers of EPS’ aide


Chennai: Directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) officials opened and checked the bank lockers belonging to R Elangovan, a close aide of former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palniswami and Chairman of the Tamilnadu State Apex Cooperative Bank.

Searches were also conducted at the bank lockers of four friends of Elangovan in Salem district as part of the investigation into the disproportionate assets case.

DVAC conducted searches at 26 locations including the residence of ‘Salem’ Elangovan in October The DVAC also registered a disproportionate assets case against Elangovan (57) and his son E Praveen Kumar (27).

According to officials, value of the asset of Elangovan at the beginning of check period in 2014 was over Rs 30 lakh and at the end of check period in 2020 the asset value went up to Rs 5.6 crore.
