Stalin demands removal of 50 per cent ceiling on reservation

Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday voiced his opposition to the 50 per cent cap on reservation in employment and education and said states should be given the authority to decide on the quantum of quota.

While speaking at the second national conference of the All India Federation for Social Justice, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also urged the government to extend reservations to the private sector and demanded the release of the Socio-Economic Caste Census data collected in 2015.

In addition to this, Stalin said that there should be proportional representation and reservations for backward communities, women and minorities in judicial appointments.

The Chief Minister highlighted the need for proportional representation and reservations for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC), and for priority to be given to students from these communities in admissions to premier institutes like IIT, IIM, and IISc.
