PMK founder urges TN govt to provide Rs. 1,000 monthly dole to all women

In a recent statement, S. Ramadoss, the founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), has called upon the Tamil Nadu state government to implement a monthly financial support program of Rs. 1,000 for all women in the state. Ramadoss’s plea comes in response to concerns that many women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have been excluded from the Kalaingar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme, prompting frustration and anger among the affected population.
Ramadoss expressed his disappointment with the current implementation of the KMUT scheme, highlighting two significant issues. First, he noted that numerous eligible women have been left out of the program. Second, he criticized the government’s handling of fresh applications, labeling it as condemnable. According to him, out of the 1.63 crore applications received, only 1.06 crore have been accepted, leaving 57 lakh applications rejected without a clear explanation.
The absence of clarification on the reasons for rejection has added to the distress of applicants. Ramadoss revealed that women who attempted to appeal against their rejected applications at e-seva centers were reportedly treated poorly. Furthermore, there are allegations that the scheme has provided Rs. 1,000 to women from affluent families while rejecting applications from financially disadvantaged households.
