Transfer murder cases against ‘siddha practitioner’ to CBI: PMK

Friday, staging a protest in Cholapuram near Kumbakonam, demanding a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe into the murders allegedly committed by a ‘siddha practitioner.’ The catalyst for the protest dates back to November 20, when Kesavamurthy, the said ‘siddha practitioner’ from Cholapuram, was arrested on charges of murdering Ashok Rajan (27) and Mohanned Anaz in 2021. The arrest also brought to light a macabre discovery – human skeletons were unearthed from Kesavamurthy’s premises, coupled with the seizure of packets of herbal medicines. Despite Kesavamurthy being taken into custody and placed under judicial custody, concerns arose about the perceived sluggish pace of the investigation. This prompted members of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) from Cholapuram, led by Aduthurai Town Panchayat Chairman Stalin, to stage a protest, advocating for the transfer of the case to the CBI. During the protest, PMK members voiced their grievances, raising slogans against both the siddha practitioner and the police. Allegations were made that the police were handling the investigation with a lethargic attitude, fueling the demand for a CBI inquiry. Additionally, the protesters called for compensation to be provided to the grieving family members of the deceased victims. The demonstration underscores the gravity of the situation and the dissatisfaction among locals regarding the perceived inadequacies in the ongoing investigation.
