Transport Commissioner warns Omni bus operators

The Tamil Nadu Transport and Road Safety Commissioner issued a stern warning to Omni Bus operators, cautioning them about potential legal repercussions under the Motor Vehicle Act and Rules. The Commissioner emphasized that criminal action could be taken if any law and order issues arise due to the failure to inform passengers about the relocation of south-bound bus operations to Kilambakkam starting from Wednesday night. In an official release, it was announced that all south-bound Omni Buses would now operate from the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) at Kilambakkam, effective from the night of January 24th. Simultaneously, popular bus ticketing platforms such as Redbus and Abhi Bus were instructed to remove pick-up and dropping points beyond the Kilambakkam terminus within the city limits. The directive aimed at streamlining operations has encountered resistance from bus operators who, allegedly, have not adequately communicated the changes to passengers. This lack of transparency has resulted in unnecessary hardships for commuters, as highlighted in the official statement. Notably, Omni buses operating via ECR, towards destinations like Vellore, Redhills, and Chittoor, will continue their services from Koyambedu, unaffected by the relocation order.
