In a significant development for the Southern Railway, M Senthamil Selvan has taken over the reins as the new Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), effective Thursday. This transition comes as part of a broader administrative reshuffle within the railway department, with B Guganesan, the former CPRO, being transferred to the role of Deputy General Manager (General) within the Southern Railway.Prior to his appointment as CPRO, Senthamil Selvan held the position of Deputy General Manager (Co-ordination) and served as the Secretary to the General Manager of the Southern Railway. With a robust background in engineering and extensive experience within the Indian Railways, Senthamil Selvan is poised to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.
Senthamil Selvan’s academic credentials are impressive, having graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Engineers, Kolkata, followed by a master’s degree in Engineering from the prestigious College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. His journey within the Indian Railways began with his entry through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), where he was commissioned as an Officer in the Territorial Army with the rank of Lieutenant.
A member of the 2007 UPSC batch of IRSEE (Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers), Senthamil Selvan has held various key positions within the Southern Railway, including Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer roles at Arakkonam and Royapuram Electrical Locomotive Sheds during different time periods. His diverse experience across multiple domains within the railway sector underscores his readiness to assume the responsibilities of CPRO.
Furthermore, Senthamil Selvan’s professional development extends beyond national borders, as he has undergone specialized training in high-speed rail technology in Japan, facilitated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This exposure to international best practices in railway infrastructure and operations positions him well to contribute towards the enhancement of railway services within the Southern Railway.
