RPF constable injured in accidental firing incident at Central station

A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, D Siva Kumar, suffered a bullet injury on his knee following an alleged accidental firing at Chennai Central railway station on Friday afternoon.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when Ravanan, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), was inspecting and cleaning a weapon. Ravanan, who serves as the zonal armorer of Central Armory in Trichy, was in Chennai to provide technical assistance for a Zonal RPF shooting competition.

While inspecting a 9 mm carbine weapon, a round accidentally fired, piercing the plywood of a table and striking Siva Kumar beneath his right knee. The injured constable was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Medical examinations revealed that the bullet did not hit the bone; it pierced only the muscle and exited, causing no severe damage.

Siva Kumar is currently receiving treatment at Perambur Railway Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Following the incident, ASI Ravanan has been placed under suspension, and a departmental inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances leading to the accidental firing.
