Tamil Nadu government has significantly advanced its efforts to enhance digital infrastructure in state-run schools, providing internet connections to 20,332 out of 37,553 schools, with plans to cover the remaining 17,221 schools by the second week of June.

An official press release on Thursday detailed the progress, highlighting that of the 6,223 government higher secondary and high schools across the state, 5,913 now have internet connectivity. Additionally, 3,799 out of 6,992 middle schools have been connected, and 10,620 out of 24,338 primary schools now have internet access.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize educational facilities and improve learning outcomes for students. In line with this, the government is also investing in the establishment of 8,180 hi-tech labs at a cost of ₹519.73 crore. These labs are designed to provide students with access to modern technology and hands-on learning experiences in science and other subjects.

Moreover, the government is creating 22,931 smart classrooms, with an investment of ₹455.32 crore. These classrooms are equipped with advanced digital tools and resources, aimed at fostering an interactive and engaging learning environment for the state’s 46.12 lakh students.

The introduction of internet connectivity and hi-tech facilities is expected to bridge the digital divide, offering students in government schools the opportunity to benefit from modern educational resources. This initiative underscores the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and ensuring that students are well-equipped to meet the demands of the digital age.
