Annamalai takes a dig at Stalin

BJP state president K. Annamalai has criticized the DMK for organizing the ‘Mupperum Vizha’ in Coimbatore on June 15, labeling the event as unproductive and out of touch with the city’s pressing needs. In a statement released on Thursday, Annamalai highlighted several civic issues that he claims the DMK has neglected.
“Coimbatore is in dire need of better roads,” Annamalai said, pointing to the poor state of infrastructure in the city. “Moreover, waste disposal is not being handled properly across Coimbatore. The only outcome of the Mupperum Vizha will be dumping more waste in the city,” he added, questioning the utility of the celebratory meeting.
Annamalai also criticized the DMK for failing to complete the Avinashi-Athikadavu water project on time, which he claims has exacerbated the water shortage in the area. He accused the DMK of not taking sufficient action to prevent Kerala’s Communist government from constructing a checkdam across a tributary of the Amaravathy River, a project he believes adversely affects Tamil Nadu’s farmers.
“The DMK should have taken steps to safeguard the interests of coconut farmers and weavers,” Annamalai said. “Roads should have been laid to prevent accidents, yet nothing has been done.”
He further alleged that Coimbatore, once a leader in industry and education, has been paralyzed under the DMK’s rule. “People feel that the DMK has not done anything for the city in the last three years,” Annamalai charged. He also accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of being more focused on advancing his son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, within the party hierarchy rather than addressing the needs of Coimbatore’s residents.
Earlier in the day, Annamalai also criticized the DMK government for its handling of Tamil Nadu’s water share from the Cauvery River. He blamed Chief Minister Stalin for not securing the state’s rightful share from Karnataka, noting that Karnataka had released only half of Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water last year. Annamalai alleged that Stalin has “pawned the welfare of Tamil Nadu farmers for the sake of the DMK–Congress alliance” and demanded that immediate steps be taken to secure Tamil Nadu’s water rights.
