TASMAC to introduce 90 ml liquor tetra packs from Diwali?

In a move aimed at preventing deaths caused by illicit liquor, Tamil Nadu is set to introduce 90 ml liquor tetra packs in TASMAC shops starting this Diwali. This initiative comes in response to the high cost of quarter bottles, which are sold for ₹140, making it unaffordable for daily wage workers who then turn to illicit liquor.
To address this issue, the government plans to sell 90 ml liquor packs for ₹80, which is half the quantity of the regular quarter bottles. Officials have studied the sale of 90 ml liquor tetra packs in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala. Notably, Telangana has successfully implemented the sale of 90 ml liquor tetra packs, which are popular among the public.
Based on these findings, arrangements are being made to introduce the 90 ml liquor tetra packs in TASMAC shops across Tamil Nadu from Diwali onwards. This initiative aims to make legal liquor more accessible and affordable, thereby reducing the consumption of dangerous illicit liquor.
