Corporation cracks down on unauthorized billboards

The Chennai Municipal Corporation has initiated a significant crackdown on unauthorized billboards across the metropolitan area. In a recent operation, the Corporation removed over 460 billboards, including 250 that exceeded 30 feet in height, due to a lack of proper licensing.
The Corporation’s approval committee recently reviewed 1,100 applications for new billboards. The approved applications have been forwarded to Zonal Officers for building stability checks. Additionally, applicants are required to obtain police clearance certificates. Permissions will be granted once these requirements are met.
This initiative is part of the Corporation’s ongoing efforts to regulate outdoor advertising and ensure public safety. Officials confirmed that the removal of unauthorized billboards and the streamlined approval process for new ones are expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs. 30 crore for the Corporation.
