London, Aug 22: Sai Sudharsan has returned to play for Surrey in the ongoing County Championship. The left-handed batter will be available for the match against Lancashire that starts on Thursday (August 22) at the Kennington Oval in London. Surrey will also get the Indian batter’s services in the match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.Back in June, Sai played a solitary match for Surrey against Essex at the KIA Oval, getting scores of 14 and 12. Later in July, he went on to make his T20I debut for the Indian men’s team on the tour of Zimbabwe. Last year, Sai was a part of the Surrey team that won the County Championship Division One title.
The upcoming matches for Surrey will also help Sai in preparing for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which is scheduled to start on September 5 in Bengaluru and Anantapur. He will play for the C Team, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Sai was called up to play for India after his stellar run for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He finished as the top run-getter for the 2022 champions, having notched 527 runs in 12 innings at an average of 47.90 and a strike-rate of 141.28.
He also scored his maiden IPL hundred against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Sai has been decent in first-class cricket as well with 1144 runs to his name from 18 games with three hundreds and four fifties.
Surrey have had an excellent run this season as they are sitting on top of the table with 157 points thanks to wins in six out of nine matches. They are also looking to win their third County Championship title on the trot.
