Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who recently retired after being disqualified from the Paris 2024 Olympics, revealed that she declined a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the setback. Phogat, now a Congress candidate for the Julana seat in the Haryana assembly elections, stated that officials informed her about PM Modi’s desire to speak with her, but conditions were imposed.
“I was ready to talk, but they said no one from my team could be present, and two people from their side would record the conversation for social media,” Phogat said in an interview with The Lallantop. She refused the call, saying, “I didn’t want my emotions and hard work to be exploited for political purposes.”
Phogat’s disclosure comes amid her transition into politics, marking a critical point in both her athletic and political career.
