Jallikattu to begin tomorrow as part of Pongal festivities 


Jallikattu, the traditional bull-taming sport, is all set to kick off as part of the Pongal celebrations in Tamil Nadu. The events will be held in Avaniyapuram, Palamedu, and Alanganallur, with an impressive 12,632 bulls registered to participate this year.
In Madurai district, Avaniyapuram will host the event on January 14, followed by Palamedu on January 15, and Alanganallur on January 16. Preparations are in full swing, and the distribution of tokens for the bulls has already begun.
According to the registrations, 2,026 bulls will be seen in action in Avaniyapuram, 4,820 bulls in Palamedu, and 5,786 bulls in Alanganallur.
Additionally, a significant number of bull-taming participants have also registered for the events. Avaniyapuram has 1,735 participants, Palamedu has 1,914 participants, and Alanganallur has 1,698 participants ready to compete.
Jallikattu remains an integral part of Tamil culture and is celebrated with great fervor during the harvest festival of Pongal. The sport not only showcases the bravery of the participants but also highlights the deep connection between Tamil farmers and their bulls. Thousands of spectators are expected to gather to witness the excitement and traditions of this much-loved event.
