Senior BJP leader and former Telangana and Puducherry governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has extended her support to IIT-Madras Director V. Kamakoti, who has faced criticism for his remarks on the medicinal properties of cow urine (komiyam).Addressing reporters in Nungambakkam on Tuesday, Tamilisai defended Kamakoti, emphasizing that Ayurveda has extensively researched komiyam and proven its medicinal benefits. “It is not harmful like Tasmac liquor, which has been devastating lives in Tamil Nadu,” she said.
Tamilisai referred to Ayurvedic texts, which describe komiyam as “Amirdha Neer,” known for treating various ailments. She cited examples of its use in countries like Myanmar and Africa for medicinal purposes, claiming it is effective in preventing germs. She also questioned critics of Kamakotiās remarks, suggesting their opposition could stem from concerns over a potential dip in Tasmac liquor sales if komiyam gained public acceptance.
Tamilisai took aim at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay over his visit to Parandur. She criticized him for visiting the site of protests against the proposed greenfield airport in Ekanapuram only after 910 days of agitation. “It is evident that Vijay is acting in his own interest while ignoring the peopleās long-standing struggle,” she remarked.
In a veiled critique of the ruling DMK government, Tamilisai accused them of attempting to suppress Indian culture and traditions. “Without the BJP, they would reject all aspects of Indian culture,” she stated, reiterating her support for preserving traditional values.
