Language row: DMK hits back at Governor

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Friday criticized the state’s two-language policy, claiming it deprived southern Tamil Nadu’s youth of opportunities. He stated that the region felt like a “neglected backyard” and called for greater language choices under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The ruling DMK strongly opposed his remarks, with Law Minister S. Regupathy accusing Ravi of “spewing hatred” against Tamil Nadu. He defended the state’s progress in education and economy, asserting that the two-language policy had contributed to its success.
Dismissing Ravi’s call for language choice, Regupathy said, “We know the difference between choice and imposition,” rejecting any attempt to impose Hindi through the NEP.
