Mumbai, July 1: India’s industrial production declined to an nine-month low of 1.2 percent in May compared with 2.6 percent in the previous month, as excess rains weighed on performance of two main sectors, according to data released on June 30.The early onset of the monsoon doused activity in mining and the demand for electricity, with both these sub-sectors of the IIP reporting a contraction in May 2025, amidst an anemic growth of manufacturing,” said Aditi Nayar, chief economist, Icra.
The decline in industrial production corresponds with a dip in core sector performance. Core sector growth slumped to a nine-month low of 0.7 percent in May from 1 percent in the previous month.
