Kiev, Oct 23; Russia carried out a massive missile and drone assault on Ukraine early Wednesday, killing at least six people and injuring 18, according to Ukrainian officials.The strikes targeted critical energy infrastructure, causing widespread blackouts across regions including Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk.
Among the casualties were a woman and her two young daughters killed in a house fire in Pohreby near Kyiv.
Two others died in a high-rise fire in the capitalās Dnipro district, while dozens were rescued from damaged buildings across Kyiv.
Ukraineās Energy Ministry reported ongoing emergency outages, with repair efforts to begin once conditions are safe.
The attack comes amid Russiaās apparent effort to cripple Ukraineās energy grid ahead of winter.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes and urged the international community to impose tougher sanctions on Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukraineās forces hit a chemical plant in Russiaās Bryansk region, a key military-industrial site.
The assault followed US President Trumpās postponement of a planned meeting with Vladimir Putin and preceded Trumpās talks with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
