Madurai, Nov 24: Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the newly constructed Madurai International Hockey Stadium at the Race Course sports complex. Built at a cost of Rs. 20 crore, the stadium meets international standards and features modern facilities including grandstands, administrative blocks, player rooms with showers, umpire changing rooms, lounges, and gallery seating for 1,756 spectators.
The inauguration comes ahead of the 14th FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup scheduled to begin on November 28, with Madurai hosting 34 of the 72 matches being played across the state.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, during the ceremony, highlighted that the stadium symbolizes Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a global sporting destination, establishing Madurai as a center of hockey excellence in southern India.
