The Tamil Nadu government has approved ₹289.63 crore in relief funds to help farmers whose crops were damaged by unseasonal rains and severe weather. This financial aid will be released from the State Disaster Relief Fund to support those affected across the State.
The decision was taken following widespread crop damage over 5.66 lakh acres of farmland and horticulture land due to unexpected rains in late 2024 and early 2025. The relief money will be provided directly to the bank accounts of around 3.60 lakh farmers, as ordered by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Of the total relief fund, ₹254.38 crore will go to farmers with damaged agricultural crops, while ₹35.25 crore will be given to those with affected horticulture crops. The compensation is intended to help farmers recover and restart cultivation after losses caused by the weather.
Officials said this aid is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support the farming community, especially during years with heavy rains and natural challenges. The money aims to reduce the financial burden on farmers and assist in stabilising agricultural activities.
