Lahore, Jan 26:  A fire broke out on Saturday in the basement of the 17-story Indigo Hotel in Lahore’s Gulberg area during a college function, killing three people and injuring seven, officials reported. Over 100 students were attending the event near Gaddafi Stadium when heavy smoke engulfed the basement, creating serious challenges for firefighters and rescuers. Punjab Emergency Department Rescue 1122 launched a prompt evacuation, safely removing 275 occupants, including students and airline crew members. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Initial findings suggest the fire may have been caused by a gas leak in the basement. This tragedy follows another deadly blaze at Gul Plaza in Karachi on January 17, which took nearly two days to extinguish and has claimed 72 lives so far. Authorities are investigating the Lahore fire to determine the exact cause and prevent similar incidents in the future, highlighting concerns over building safety standards.
