Chennai, Aug 1:

The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Chennai has been reduced by ₹200 from August 1, bringing the new retail price down to ₹2,906. However, there has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder, which continues to be sold at ₹957.50.

Oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum, revise LPG prices on the first day of every month based on international crude oil trends and fluctuations in the rupee against the US dollar.

The latest reduction offers relief to restaurants, hotels and other commercial establishments that depend heavily on LPG for daily operations. The cut comes amid a series of recent revisions following a period of steep increases in commercial cylinder prices.

In the previous revision, the price of the 19-kg commercial cylinder had been reduced by ₹172.50, bringing it down from ₹3,283 to ₹3,106. With the latest cut, prices have fallen further to ₹2,906.

Despite the reduction in commercial LPG rates, domestic consumers will not see any immediate benefit, as household cylinder prices remain unchanged in the current revision cycle.
