Chennai, Sept 15:
The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed an election petition challenging the victory of Revenue Minister K A Sengottaiyan from the Gobichettipalayam Assembly constituency in the Tamil Nadu elections.
AIADMK candidate Prabhu had challenged Sengottaiyan’s election, contending that the nomination papers submitted by him should not have been accepted as the notary advocate who attested the documents had an expired licence.
Sengottaiyan had subsequently moved the High Court seeking dismissal of the election petition. The matter came up before Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan, who heard arguments from both sides on the minister’s plea.
After considering the submissions, the judge reserved the matter for orders. In his order pronounced on Tuesday, Justice Ilanthiraiyan dismissed the election petition challenging Sengottaiyan’s victory.
