Kolkata, Oct. 24:
A handwritten note warning of a bomb at a boarding gate at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata triggered a security search on Friday. However, flight operations continued without disruption, officials said.
The note, written on a piece of tissue paper, was found in a women’s toilet by an airport cleaning staff member. It warned of a bomb at boarding gate number 30, prompting the staff member to alert the authorities.
Following the alert, the area around the boarding gate was cleared and a bomb squad, along with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, launched an extensive search of the airport premises. Officials said no suspicious object had been found at the time of the report.
Bidhannagar City Police began questioning the cleaning staff member who discovered the note. Investigators were also examining CCTV footage to identify the person who may have left it.
Security was tightened across the airport as a precaution, but there was no disruption to flight operations, an airport official said.
The incident comes around a fortnight after the airport received another bomb threat by email on October 8. Security agencies had then searched the premises after alerting passengers and clearing certain areas. No explosives were found during that search either.
