BJP president Amit Shah

Chennai: “BJP president Amit Shah will forge a strong alliance in Tamilnadu for the upcoming election. Cadres are confident of a wonderful show in the election,” says senior BJP leader and party’s Chennai in-charge M Chakravarthy.

Speaking to ‘News Today’, Chakravarthy said, “Various welfare measures initiated by the Modi government have won the approval of the people of Tamilnadu.”

Excerpts from his interview:

Q: How is the mood in Tamilnadu BJP after Amit Shah’s recent visit to Chennai?

A: It is very jubilant. Over 13,000 cadres waited in a disciplined manner for Amit Shah to arrive and address them. That spirit really impressed him. He said he has developed a special liking for Tamilnadu and promised to make sincere efforts to forge a strong alliance in the State to face the coming election. Amit Shah further said on 22 October, Narendra Modi may visit Madurai, where he would meet over 25,000 karyakarthas across the State under one roof.

Q: Why is it that almost all parties in Tamilnadu develop cold feet when it comes to BJP?

A: That is because every political party knows that we are growing stronger in Tamilnadu. At the ground-level we are reaching out to more and more people every day. They appreciate us for we are pro-people and pro-development in our approach. They must be envious of our rise in Tamilnadu.

Q: What is your poll plank for the general elections?

A: We will list out the welfare measures initiated by the Modi government. Millions have benefitted by the good work of the NDA government. Be it constructing public toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission, Jandhan or  Mudra schemes, all have been of great help to the common people. There is no power-cut as we have connected the national grid to ensure excess power is transferred to States that need them badly. Agriculture is given a major boost.

Q: On criticism by Opposition parties that the BJP is remote-controlling the AIADMK…

A: We always believe that the Central and State governments should share a good relationship for all-round development. The AIADMK government shares the same idea. As far as alliance is concerned, it is not the time to say anything. Let’s us face what happens near election time.

Q: Will BJP join hands with Rajini?

A: He has announced that he will enter politics. He hasn’t even floated his own party. No one knows what his policies will be. We will ally with those who want to join with us.
