Chennaiites plan to save lake by closing a drainage pipe

Chennai: Residents of Iyyappa Nagar have requested authorities concerned to close one of the oldest storm water drains (SWD) present at Iyyappa Nagar First Cross Street, Madipakkam in the city.

They said,”In the recent downpour, sewage drains present at Medavakkam Main Road overflowed and the sewage mixed with surplus rainwater that flowed into Madipakkam Lake.

“Since, rejuvenation works are currently on at Madipakkam lake. We fear that this might delay the works and spoil the water body. We request the authorities to clear the drain and close the drain’s inlet temporarily.”
