Chennai: A woman who murdered her two children on Friday to elope with her lover in Kunrathur was arrested by police in Nagercoil in the wee hours today.
According to police, Abirami (25) lived with her husband Vijay (30), who works at a private bank and her children Ajay (7) and Karumila (5) at Agastheeswarar Koil Street at Kundrathur.
She reportedly had an affair with Sundaram, who works in a biriyani shop nearby. This led to frequent quarrel between the husband and wife.
On Friday, while her husband had gone to office, she poisoned her children and went missing. When Vijay returned home by 5 am on Saturday, he found the house unlocked and his children frothing from the mouth.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had a love marriage eight years ago and moved to Kundrathur just five months back. Abirami met Sundaram when the family dined at the hotel recently. The duo planned to kill all three of them and elope to Nagercoil and later go and settle down in Kerala. However, Vijay escaped as he had to stay back in office for work.
A special team of police was formed to nab Abirami. Sundaram was in Chennai and he had planned to join Abirami after all things settled down.
Police tracked the cellphone signals for Abirmai and found out that she had been to Koyambedu and from there took a bus to Nagerocil. She stayed at a lodge in Nagercoil last night. Police rushed to the place and arrested her. She is being brought to Chennai.
