
Chennai: Rajasthan Cosmo Club Foundation which is celebrating its silver jubilee year honoured 400 teachers from 64 schools by recognising them ahead of Teachers Day by organising a special programme ‘Guru Devo Bhava.’
Chief Education Officer R Thiruvalar Selvi inaugurated the event and launched the 25,000 sapling plantation drive under the Go Green Initiative at Agarwal Vidyalaya, EVK Sampath Road, Vepery.
A press release said the keynote address was delivered by Income Tax Department, Joint Commissioner V Nandakumar and motivational speaker Suki Sivam.
The Foundation managing trustee Sripal Kothari said the trust has adopted 130 schools and distributes 20,000 new school uniforms and 15,000 new clothes to society at large every year under its cloth bank scheme.
Under the ‘Guru Devo Bhava’ programme all teachers were given a momento to appreciate the noble work they are doing.
Foundation secretary Vijay Kankaria said, “A ‘cloth bag scheme’ to promote cloth bags and restrict the usage of plastics will be held on 18 September at Taj coromandel.”
Sripal said the foundation raises funds for all these projects by conducting a mega exhibition cum fundraiser event Meena Bazaar every year and this year it is going to take place on 19 and 20 of September in Chennai, 22 and 23 September at Coimbatore.
