Chennai: “In 10 years, over 80 per cent of the present jobs won’t exist. Life-long happy employment is no longer possible. The lifespan of companies will soon become short,” said Educomp Solutions Ltd managing director and Learning Leadership Foundation (LLF) founder Shantanu Prakash.

He said this while delivering the Dr Smt Y G Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy Shashtiabdapoorthi Endowment Lecture on ‘Managing a VUCA World – The Indian Perspective’, at Bala Bhavan Educational Trust, YGP Auditorium, PSBB School, T Nagar, Tuesday.

Students presenting a portrait of PSBB Group of Schools founder, Mrs YGP, to her during an endowment lecture at T Nagar, Tuesday.

“The present world which we live in is called VUCA world where ‘V’ stands for volatile, ‘U’ – uncertain, ‘C’ – complex and ‘A’ – ambiguous. There are no laws, no rules and no boundaries when it comes to the functioning of the present world,” he said.

According to Prakash, the only way to sustain in this VUCA world is to leapfrog. “There are over 250 million young people in India without jobs. Machines are slowly replacing manpower. So, in order to face this world, we must be flexible and adaptive. If we don’t face the change, we will fail.”

On the education front, the expert said, “On the one side, software engineering has become a hot job but on the other, 4,000 engineering colleges are getting closed every year.”

PSBB Group of Schools founder, Mrs YGP, deputy dean Sheela Rajendran, principal S Vasanthi, vice-principal Durga Chandrasekar and academic administrator-coordinator K S Vijayalakshmi were among those present during the lecture.
