Age is just a number for Kishore when it comes to working for a social cause. This septuagenarian social activist has fought and won a 14-year-long case against encroachers in Ramapuram.
The locality now has a new park for its residents, all thanks to his never-say-never attitude.
“I have been living in Ramapuram for nearly 40 years and I have an emotional bond with this area; I am ready to do anything for its betterment. The case against the encroachers was filed in Madras High Court and I fought for 14 years. Finally, the judgement came in our favour, and it has earned us a park and a community hall,” says Kishore emotionally.
It is very surprising to learn that Kishore has fought this case single handedly for all these years. “Many residents who were staying here have moved, and I had to take up the case all by myself. It took such a long time for us to get the judgement, and I don’t think any one would have had the patience like I did,” explains the activist.
Currently, he is the president of Rayala Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association and vice-president of Ramapuram Social Welfare Federation. “Remember the recent news about desilting work at Ramapuram lake. That was possible only because of the continuous push on behalf of our federation,” claims Kishore.
He also takes care of a ration shop in his area – right from establishing a shed there to the painting expenses. Now, he along with his federation has taken up a new cause: They are trying to convert the local corporation school into a high school, and petitions regarding this are said to have been submitted.
D FOR DEVELOPMENT
“Never in my dreams have I thought Ramapuram would develop this much, both in terms of infrastructure and land value. There was a time when a land here was sold for just Rs 2,500,” he chuckles.
NEED OF THE HOUR
“A good library is the prime need now. This will greatly help the senior citizens and children in the locality spend quality time during their free time. Also, I have submitted various petitions regarding SWD extension, construction of proper footpath and many more. Till I have strength left in my body, I will work for the betterment of my area and people,” Kishore says passionately.
