DMK president M K Stalin and other leaders at the all-party meet in Chennai today.

Chennai: “We have passed a resolution to stage a massive agitation 4 December at Tiruchi against the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for the clearance given for a detailed project report to build a dam across the Cauvery in Mekedatu, and the Karnataka government which will be implementing it,” said Leader of Opposition and DMK president M K Stalin today.

He said this after an all-party meeting at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam today.

“As the time is short, we couldn’t invite parties but welcome all of them irrespective of differences to participate in our protest. Even the BJP is welcome to it. As the delta region will bear the brunt of the upcoming dam, we have planned the protest in Tiruchi,” he added.

The meeting saw the participation of DMK’s allies, the Congress, MDMK, and CPI and CPI(M), among others. Earlier, a two-minute silence was observed for those who lost their lives to Gaja cyclone.

TN TO APPROACH SC?

The Tamilnadu government is likely to file a petition in the Supreme Court tomorrow to quash the Union Ministry’s clearance to Karnataka government to prepare a detailed project report to build a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu.
